Dr. Virginia South was born and raised in Sarnia and is happy to be providing psychological services to the community of Lambton County and surrounding areas.
Psychological Treatment & Therapy Background
Dr. Virginia South completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology-Chicago. She is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario to provide clinical and counseling services to adults, adolescents, and couples. Dr. South has worked in a variety of settings in Canada and the United States including, Rogers Park Child and Adolescent Services Program in Chicago, Illinois, Psychological Consultations in Chicago, Illinois and Elmhurst College Counseling Center in Elmhurst, Illinois. She completed her predoctoral internship training at The University of Texas at Austin, Counseling and Mental Health Centre (CMHC) and continued on at The University of Texas at Austin, CMHC to complete her postdoctoral licensure hours following graduation. Dr. South was employed as a Staff Therapist at The University of Texas at Austin, CMHC and was a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas. Dr. South returned to Ontario in 2009 and worked as a Psychologist in the private practice of Dr. Sandra McKenzie in London, Ontario prior to opening her own full time Psychology Practice in Sarnia in 2010. Dr. South provides psychodynamic, insight oriented, relational, and cognitive behavioural therapy.
Dr. South: Registered Yoga Teacher
Dr. South is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT200) and provides yoga therapy as an adjunct to traditional psychological approaches. Dr. South completed her yoga training with Mandorla Yoga Institute and is currently working on her 500 hour training which will allow her to provide more specialized treatment in yoga therapy to address physical and emotional concerns . Her yoga background allows her a unique way to work with individuals who would like this type of focus in addressing psychological concerns.
